University of Florida Announces Technology That Dramatically Increases Router Speed
July 23 2007 - The University of Florida has recently licensed advanced network router software that speeds network traffic and downloads. The software enables large images, video clips, small bursty traffic, and files to breeze through network routers.
Rapid Routers LLC, a portfolio company of Atlanta-based Intellectual Property Partners LLC, worked with Karl Zawoy, Assistant Director in the Office of Technology Licensing to negotiate a license to this revolutionary, advanced network routing software from the University of Florida. “This software dramatically increases per port throughput speeds, reduces packet losses and improves memory efficiency,” says Zawoy.
“This breakthrough in increased router speeds is significant,” says Dennis Mitrano, president of Rapid Routers. “The manufacturers who implement this software within their routers will offer a large competitive advantage to their customers, both today and as IPv6 comes on line. This completely eliminates the need for overlay network routing schemes.”
Increased amounts of high bandwidth traffic and small message traffic are being pushed through the networks. This software can be selectively applied to routers with specific congestion, not requiring a complete network overhaul.
This routing software is based upon the research and design of Dr. Sartaj Sahni and his team in the Department of Computer and Information Science and Engineering at the University of Florida. They have made a quantum leap in the look-up algorithms for network routers. The team dissected the exiting IPv4 routing structures and the new IPv6 routing structures to produce a much needed increase in speed of route selection.
Rapid Routers, LLC -- headquartered in Atlanta, GA, with offices in Gainesville, Florida -- is a technology development corporation exclusively focused on enabling technologies in the area of network routers. For more information, visit www.rapid-routers.com or call (404) 961-3000.
The Office of Technology Licensing at the University of Florida (UF) was established in 1985 to work with university inventors to facilitate the transfer of technologies created at UF into the commercial sector for public use. The office is dedicated to assisting employees who feel they have something new and useful, which is potentially patentable or copyrightable. In addition, the office works with industries to help identify new technologies that can expand product lines, improve manufacturing processes and help them gain a competitive edge in the marketplace.
