IP2Biz delivers low-cost petrocarbon recycling technology.

Problem:
Our client is a F500 company with sophisticated R&D capabilities and is known to be well managed and an innovation leader. They hired us for an IPScout program to search for a disruptive technology with these characteristics: Early stage green tech; A new process to convert petrocarbon waste to useful components which could be recycled into manufactured products; A process that required a small fraction of the energy thought to be necessary to perform the chemical transformation; an invention for which the exclusive rights could be reasonably acquired.

Solution:
As with all our IPScout engagements, we scoured the world for plausible approaches, finding 38 candidates in 11 countries from universities and early stage start-up companies. Completing the proprietary IP2Biz process brought us to one which met the requirements above (and which was unknown to our client.)

We recommended to our client that we invest jointly to share the cost of the translational research required to confirm the efficacy of the process in their application. As with all Joint ProofCos^®, our client purchased an option to acquire our exclusive rights to the technology for a specified multiple of our cost in the deal.

Recently, the client exercised the option at the agreed multiple, and they have been assigned the license from the university as originally negotiated by us.
